A NEW RAINY SEASON IS A NEW OPPORTUNITY TO WAGE FRESH FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT.
Today 01st March 2023 opens the month that the first rainy season always sets. This is the period of time that you hear sounds of fixing hoes; tank tank tank tank, tank coming from all directions. There are those who survive on farming, but do not even wish to buy their own. They keep borrowing hoes from others, the most important tool for gardening. This tells you how unserious some people are and how people look at agriculture.
The young people are taken to schools and those who progress in education are modelled into to thinking that they are now only fit for office work. Those that never go far with studies join others in practicing agriculture, the ancient, our ancestors way that doesn't yield much financially.
Many think holding hoes to tilt the garden is a resort for education failures and poor people. In other countries, if a person has an acre of land, is already rich because they have powerful, positive ideas and skills in turning the land into money without changing its ownership.
Many of our youth are being deceived by their papers that they can not now get down tilting the land. A section of graduates mind about what people will say if they start doing casual works and because of this, they keep waiting or looking for jobs in their professions 1, 2, 5, 8,10 and more years wasted, living unproductive life. If friends are leaving and despising you because you are doing what they call low level work, that is the time you screen and remain with productive friends. Life is short, do not waste time being unproductive because time wasted can never be regain.
Most of our youth are living unproductive lifestyle. Entrepreneurship teaches two key things; Products and services. If the knowledge/skills service you have is not being demanded currently, you can think along the lines of products and start producing some something for sales. Do a thorough scan or survey of your community and see the products that people use every day for example food; beans, peas, soyabean, groundnuts, simsim, onions, carrots, green papers, greens, tomatoes, potatoes, maize, cassava and many others , not forgetting other non food items.
And if our youth have accepted and now determine to venture into Agriculture, even if it's on a small scale, they should make sure they research and put in work very current, contemporary and flexible knowledge and skills. When you do something, do it with skills, wisdom and take it seriously, though not too seriously. You will start doing something and community will tell you that what you are planting can not do well there, please don't give up, look for more skills and keep trying.
For those who want to venture into business, you don't have to keep wishing to get millions through begging and betting. There are a number of small businesses that you can start with very small capital; poultry, Selling rolex, chapati and pizza, selling pancakes, Sumbiz and others, making and delivering salads. Selling eggs and cookies. Bottled water and frieds, or better still you can also do , dry cleaning, mobile car wash, house cleaning services and many more. Since these businesses do not require big money, you can raise this small capital in simple causal ways. Tongo foundation (tilting trenches for house foundation) will not kill you, Working as a helper at a construction side is not a crime. What if you help trim somebody's home garden? how about slashing the compound? And many other ways you know it can raise that little money required to start up a small business.
Boys stop stressing your parents. Girls stop stressing your boyfriends. Become useful by starting something small to keep you busy and as well solve you small needs!
Colleagues youths, I am not a rich man, I am also in the struggle. Let's put pride aside and we work uncommonly hard with the most current, contemporary and flexible knowledge and skills.
