OUR DAUGHTERS ARE BACK HOME FOR HOLIDAYS: BEWARE OF PERPETRATORS OF RAPE AND DEFILEMENT.

Covid-19 exposed to the whole world that children are more prone to a number of sexually related dangers at home during holidays, than at schools since between the year 2020 and 2022 thousands and thousands young girls left schools due to early pregnancy. This can be interpreted that parents are not doing enough to guide and protect their children from these evils.

According to Police Annual crime reports, over 12,000 cases of defilements and over 1,600 cases of rapes were reported in Uganda in 2022 alone, minus series of cases not reported to police. This is a serious dilemma since thousands of these victims are girls under the age of consent. The brilliant dreams of these young girls are despoiled since a number of them end up conceiving, contracting STDs or both. 

In most cases, these vices are committed by people known to these children, and it's very important to be concerned about the people you exposed your children to;

Boda bodas and drivers are among the serous perpetrators of defilement. It's good to have a family boda, but there must be some limits. Don't over trust your child with your boda.

Shopkeepers are also known actors in this crime. They use their groceries to induce young girls into sexual activities. We should not be too lazy to do other things ourselves or together with our children. Mind the place and the time you send your child out.

Relatives and friends are really good people to us, but not all. Just like a saying goes; not all people are the same. These issue of letting your children familiarize all the family friends is not good. It has become a fashion that every man can easily become an uncle to our children. We teach our children to call all men, uncle even when we know very well they are not. A number of single parents more especially mothers are fond of dating younger men(boys) and a many times these boys turn to your daughters, so mothers should avoid reckless lifestyles.

Parties like birthday celebrations are never good for children when parents are not part of them. Parents carelessly send their children to their neighbors' and friends' places for parties alone saying they are too busy to attend such parties. If you are too busy to accompany your children to suci parties, better you all stay back.

A number of religious leaders have been implicated in cases of rape and defilement. Many of us want to trust religious leaders like we are trusting God. The bible says trust no body except God. Everytime you entrust your children with religious leaders, know the limits and let your children understand that these leader are not holy like God.

Home workers like house help, chamber boys, babysitters, chefs, gatekeepers are very important though experiences have revealed that they can also turn to be harms instead of being good. It's really important to try finding out more about whoever you bring home to stay together with you and your children, and as well help your children not to be very prone and vulnerable to these people.

 

Step fathers are always given all the privileges and respect just like biological fathers. It's so absurd that a number of them have turned to be defilers and rapists themselves yet these young girls look up to them for protection. 

Teachers are really important people to our children. A lot of parents tend to have a lot of confidences in those teachers. At times children are sent to these teachers' homes for remedial lessions commonly known as coaching, but some teachers use that advantage to sexually abuse the young girls instead of building them. It's better to have the lesson at your place if you can afford. 

In a nutshell, let's be very friendly and close to our children. It's not to be a complicated parent to the extent that your children even fear sharing matters with you. This doesn't mean you should not discipline your child, even the bible encourages parents to get a good rod and discipline a child appropriately when necessary. You should be your child's best friend so that she can easily open up to you.
